Walmart Customer Satisfaction Review on Black Friday Shopping 2009

So it was much better this time since customers can choose to get in the store anytime during Thanksgiving day itself because store is open 24 hours. Therefore you can now save your time after Thanksgiving dinner doing other more important things at home or with friends or relatives all through late evening and night. When I heard from a friend of mine who had been queing up for the last 12 years outside Walmart in Nordahl Rd., San Marcos; that you can pretty much even get in as late as 4a.m Friday (Nov. 27th), walk around store to look for the item/items you are interested in, then hang around those items to be able to just grab them when the store call the shots right at 5a.m. So I was very happy with the new arrangement especially now I don't have to be sleep deprived.

Got in the store at 4.45a.m. Was able to weaved my way through the throng of eager hundreds of people over to Electronics only to find the some of aisles around the electronics have been roped off to build some kind of theme park type paths over to the cash register. I was very surprised that I could get an employee's attention who willingly took me over the Samsung MX20 camcorder that I wanted. Unfortunately, I cannot just grab it even when I was standing right there in front of the stack. That I have to actually get a ticket to stand in line to get one. Took me a while before I could comprehend the system. Walmart this year have adopted 'theme park' type of getting in line to get to your destination/attraction.

My line (electronics line) is about half a mile long with about 150 customers. This is still OK since we all know how those lines is a must and culture of high demand places like Disneyland. Except what I don't understand is ONLY ONE CASH REGISTER IS OPENED TO SERVE!! My God, it took me total of 2 hours to get to register and pay. Enough total amount of time for me to actually get to know whole life stories of some 4 people standing in front and behind of me. Feeling like a Zombie from lack of sleep and the misery of trying so hard to figure out if this is even worth to save between $50 to $100. Enough time to question if Walmart is doing this right or if there are alternatives that can reduce the extreme agony EVERYBODY was going through. No advance notice anywhere in the news, online, brochures, or anywhere of how Walmart is conducting Black Friday this year, right? So no coffee, water, drinks, or donuts in our hands. Never mind! But it just sucks to actually see about 3 to 4 of those floor employees around this Electronics depatment standing around 'idle' after 40 minutes of handing out tickets. Obviously, they are there just to hand out tickets and keep track of physical count of the stock as they commit on those tickets.

Problem is there should have even 1 more extra cash register set up either to the left or right side of the lone register that serving the mass. There was ample space to set up on both sides of the single register. Those idle labor should have been put to good use after first 40 minutes or so.

WHAT IS WALMART THINKING? BIG CORPORATION WITH NO BRAINS! WASTED RESOURCES! WASTING CUSTOMERS TIME. Presence of law and order, no doubt this is highly important. We all understand but THIS! Line could have been cleared out easy in half the time it took. Seems to me, Walmart is expecting its electronics customers to just bear the cross and not complain considering the DEAL we are getting. Well, I thought Target, Best Buy, Frys Electronics, and Amazon have just as good a deal!

Also, why can't they just hand us our items since we already have our tickets so we can walk around and be able to grab other items we have in mind like we always do. And have the liberty of choosing which register we want to check out of. Why not? If your item is small enought to clutch.

Like I said, bad enough not to inform customers how you are doing it this time. Walmart has fail to step inside shoes of its customers and see how it feels to be deprived of a chance to go to other stores to shop for other things we have on our list and not mess up our array of DOORBUSTERS. Depriving us of our once a year to save ourselves of some good amount of money especially in this bad economy.
